A word from the newly elected chairperson
I would like to start by saying thank you for taking the time to read this, and that I am sincerely humbled to have the honour to be elected to be the chair of the North London Area of the British Judo Council. I am truly excited to have the opportunity to be working with a great, close knit team, with a wealth of knowledge and experience.
The area committee will proactively promote equal opportunities, and encourage excellence for everyone who participates within our martial art. It is also our duty to comply with the policies of the British Judo Council.
The North London Area is comprised of eight local judo clubs, where we offer the opportunity for everyone to join us in learning the martial art of judo. We are motivated by helping everyone of all ages and abilities to develop their knowledge and understanding, and to inspire them to do their best. We proactively encourage you to be a part of more than just a sport, we invite you to be a part of our judo family community.
We also encourage our members to challenge themselves by participating in competitive judo, including from club level, to area and national competitions, even to aim to achieve the ability to compete at the highest international level.
As an area there are provisions for organised judo sessions, seminars, courses, gradings, randori and competitions where our area members are all encouraged to take part.
There are further provisions for the opportunity to become coaches, referees, competition officials and first aiders, which is also open to the parents and guardians of our members helping grow our community.
We have many members, many of who have successfully achieved both national and international status. This includes our youth grades, senior grades and our area coaches – most of which are still actively competing.
Judo is a martial art which has adapted and is a very popular Olympic sport, which is one of the most practised martial arts in the world.
Although the art of Judo is a sport, we bring more than just a sport, we encourage all our participants to adopt a good ethical mindset, which in turn aids a positive disciplined mindset, to carry forward into the community for the rest of their lives.
Thank you for your time
